Mens and womens 1XI season kicks off

Old Loughtonians Mens 1st XI started their campaign in the East Premier Division with a 1-0 win against City of Peterborough on Saturday. A goal by Luke Mepham just before half time settled the score.
This was a new Loughtonians’ Squad with lots of players coming through from the youth section and once they had overcome a nervous start they dominated sections of the game and put pressure on the opposition goal.
There were however occasional lapses and it took a fine save by keeper Fred Whitfield towards the end of the game to retain the winning margin. Captain Tom Stumbke was pleased to secure the points and move on to our next game at Chelmsford this Saturday
On Saturday Old Loughtonians Ladies hosted Maidstone 1st XI their first league fixture of the season. Loughts dominated with chances either being saved or missing the posts on numerous occasions! The second half produced much of the same without reward and with 10 minutes remaining Maidstone were given a penalty corner and with a miss trap and a bouncing hit it was touched in on the post. Old Loughtonians kept the pressure on but could still not convert, game ending in a 1-0 loss
