EH Proposals
Posted by Peter Kempe on 9 January 2020
At the end of December England Hockey updated its proposals on structural changes.
The proposals are intended:
(a) to introduce new rules and regulations so that these are consistent across England and would apply equally to all leagues;
(b) to change the structures for hockey in England by replacing the 5 existing Regions with 8 new much smaller Areas.
The document issued in December provides indicative information on how the Areas would be constituted and which clubs would play in each Area and separate smaller sub-areas.
OLHC would have the option of playing in a new London Area (in practice a new NE London sub-area) or in the East Area (in practice a new SW East sub-area running from Brentwood to Ipswich).
Unfortunately the proposals as outlined whilst sensible in theory do not work in practice and we have informed England Hockey that we cannot recommend them to members as they are.
We would support the proposal to create uniform rules and regulations for all leagues but not the restructuring of the County and Regional structures or changes to league structures.
Please read our submission to England Hockey and provide feedback to the management committee.
The AGM to consider the proposals is on 17th March 2020.
