U18 Boys - Champions!

On a very pleasant, sunny Saturday afternoon, the U18 Boys all gathered at Reading Hockey club to play Lichfield in the Tier 2 England Hockey Cup final. Ably led by captain Xavier Cook and his conditioned, silky Louis XVll hair-do, the lads decided to play the season's finale as a bonded team. Having taken an early second minute lead through Freddie's back handed bullet, there then ensued a ten minute period of trying to give the opposition as much possession as humanly possible. However, once Mr. Gladman had politely pointed out the error of their ways, they reverted to a more visually pleasing method of play. This resulted in two immediate benefits. First and foremost, Chris was able to calm himself and Loughts proceeded to go 4 - 1 up with only eight minutes to go through some superb team effort play. It goes without saying that such a great set of lads clearly felt a sense of guilt at the score line, so in a valiant effort to balance things out, took the decision to allow Barney, who had been exemplary in goal, the opportunity of playing a single-handed period of play against the opposing attack. Thus, 4 -1 became 4 -3 quite rapidly. Mr. Gladman was overjoyed by such a benevolent display!! The final whistle quickly extinguished any further touchline angst.

A big thank you must be extended to Chris Gladman for stepping in at late notice and providing the team with a hugely positive attitude and very well done to the team for a great win which provided a well-deserved end to a hard fought season.

 

U14 Boys EH Tier 1 Runner-Up

Saturday 11th May saw the U14 boys travel to Reading HC for their England Hockey Tier 1 Championship finals day. They played some great quality hockey throughout the day, with strong individual performances, but more than anything it was their team spirit and commitment to work as hard as they possibly could for each other that enabled them to win 2 games and draw one to earn a place in the final.

Despite a valiant effort, the final proved one game too many for them as they ran out of fire power. This enabled a very strong Surbiton team to take advantage with some clinical finishing to win the match. The boy’s spirit did not falter throughout and they fought hard to the end but were unable to find what was needed to trouble the opposition and Surbiton finished as worthy winners. The Lought's boys played their hearts out, gave it everything and left nothing on the pitch and were well deserved runners up at the National Finals, a fantastic performance to complete a brilliant season. Congratulations to all the boys, we are all very proud of you.

The boys U14’s will be celebrating this season and handing out achievement awards with some of the men’s lower teams this Thursday 16th May at 8pm after their training, before social hockey. It would be lovely to see as many people there as possible.

Young Umpire Development Day 2nd June 2019

The East Young Umpire Pathway is running a series of Young Umpire Training Day's across the region. This is a great first step to get involved in officiating and start your umpiring career.

Who is it for?  People who are keen to umpire that are of secondary school age (11 - 16 years old)

When and where is it? A number of events are being held across the region, in June and July

How much is it? £20 per person to attend, which includes a whistle and a free umpiring shirt!

What do I get out of it? You will become an East qualified Young Umpire, which will allow you to officiate at a number of in2hockey events. You'll be able to umpire the junior games within your club, and get the opportunity to progress further by umpiring at junior county events, such as Academy Centres. You'll also be added to the East Young Umpire Pathway's Academy Programme, where the support team of coaches and mentors will be on hand to help your progression and development. Don't worry, you won’t be asked to umpire for the adult sides on a Saturday just yet.

What do I need to attend? Notepad and pen, refreshments for the day and your playing kit - yes you get to play! This course involves both theory and practical elements, and is highly interactive to ensure you learn as much as you can, but also have a fun time. All the umpiring bits you may need (such as a whistle) will be provided upon arrival.

Cardiac Screening for Young People

The Community, Health and Wellbeing team at Epping Forest District Council are working with a charity called CRY (cardiac risk in the young). They aim to raise awareness of cardiac risk in young people, as in the UK 12 young people die a week from undiagnosed cardiac issues. The charity also supports family that have suffered a loss from cardiac issue and offer free cardiac screening for young people aged 14-35.  https://www.c-r-y.org.uk/

A local resident (Buckhurst Hill) lost her 14 year old daughter to an undiagnosed cardiac condition a few years ago and ever since has been campaigning tirelessly to raise money and arrange screening days to identify any young people who may be at risk of undiagnosed cardiac issues. On the weekend of the 29th and 30th June there is a screening weekend taking place at Grange Farm in Chigwell thanks to the support of Colebrook Royals.
