Weekend Round-Up

The men’s 1st XI put in the miles both in the car and on the pitch as they travelled up to Cannock for a pre-season tournament using 19 players over the two days.  Loughts lost the first game 1-2 to Olton before improving to win 3-2 over Cheltenham in the afternoon on Saturday. Sunday saw further improvement as the team started to take some shape and Loughts dominated against Harleston only to concede a daft goal to draw 1-1. The last game saw the best performance of the weekend with Michal Nowakowski and Andy MacGregor scoring in a 2-1 won over Kelburne from Scotland.

Sad News

It is with deep sadness we have to inform our members that Frank Lockhart, a stalwart of umpiring and sport generally, has passed away.  Frank became a much respected figure in both hockey and cricket over many years.  He was a popular figure at many hockey and cricket clubs in the East, and became a regular figure at the Barcelona Hockey Tournament, where he was honoured with a special presentation recently. Until last year he was taking regular appointments with Essex HUA, and was a regular at School games in the East, as well as England Masters matches - not bad at 80 +!  He was always supportive on and off the pitch and had a never ending catalogue of stories. His friends and colleagues will miss him enormously. One of Hockey's greats
