Round Up and the Coming Weekend
The Men’s 1’s clicked last weekend for the late game at St Albans, scoring 5 goals and showing superiority over the opposition for most of the game, save a few wobbles towards the end when St Albans gave everything to get back into the match. However a new found resilience saw them ride the pressure and finish the game as 5-3 victors .
Ladies 1’s looked as if it may be similar for them in a classic game of two halves for their visit to Sudbury in the East Hockey Ladies Premier Division.
Loughts dominated the game from the pushback and produced an outstanding first half display. A penalty corner from Laura Oglesby and a close range finish from Miranda Baldwin gave Loughts a 2-0 advantage.
Loughts almost increased the lead further right on half time when Emily Holmes was fouled by the keeper. However the penalty stroke awarded went narrowly wide.
Old Loughts continued in the same vain at the start of the second half, but the final 20 minutes saw Sudbury stage an incredible fight back to level from 2 penalty corners and then snatch victory with just 4 minutes remaining.
A full match-day program tomorrow sees 7 home games , including both first XI’s and the Vets play Reading after a cracking , high quality encounter with Hampstead and Westminster last weekend .
The bar is open, subject to certain restrictions of course , for an exciting day in prospect.
Back To Hockey Still Growing .
Good numbers this week on Wednesday again for Back To Hockey with one or two very accomplished types joining in with some totally new to playing the game and having fun , whatever their level and ability .
There are more players than can get a game at the club currently , but Mancom continue to do everything they can to get change that situation and it is inevitable that we will have more teams soon and these players will all be needed and more . Growing a stronger club is going to create these challenges but we will be over this soon and have an even better club as a result.
Old Boys/ Girls done well.
We’ve had a number of players at the Club over the years who have gone on to great accomplishments in the sport but not sure whether anybody who knew the slightly scruffy , ex- Loughborough student would have guessed the role that this guy has now gone onto achieve .
Congratulations to Ralphie who is set to become the new permanent Head Coach starting after the Tokyo Olympics for the GB Women’s Elite Development Programme.
