Last Monday night fitness session for this season tonight – 7.30 @ Old Loughtonians Hockey Club!!
GK Coaching has now finished for the season. Arrangements are being put in place ready to start in September!
The bar will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday this week but reopens on Saturday in time for all the home fixtures and will stay open for the quiz!
Willows have Fun
With no league game scheduled, we travelled to Southgate for a friendly against their Tankards Z team and, despite the M25 doing its best to prevent the game going ahead, plus sickness and injury reducing us to ten men, the warm welcome extended by our hosts made for one of our most enjoyable outings. The game was played in a relaxed friendly spirit and we continued to bask in the same convivial atmosphere at the bar where our hosts bought the beers. It also helped that we won 4-0, of course!
On pitch, the standard of the two teams was very similar but they attacked up the centre and crashed on our solid midfield and defence. By contrast, we attacked up the wings and asked too many questions of them. They had very good youngsters but ours were a year older and a foot taller. And, ultimately, perhaps their best skills were concentrated in the back half of their team, while ours were mobile enough to attack more.
We are planning a return match, probably in April at home, and I expect them to bring more of their Tankards Y and A teams next time. Let’s welcome them as warmly as they did us. Game on!

National clubs In2Hockey Championships Essex Round 2017-2018 Under 12 Girls
A fantastic performance from the U12 girls playing 5 back to back games winning 3, drawing 2, finishing joint top on points and losing out on the top spot only on goal difference.
An excellent all round team performance with each individual giving 100% effort in each game.
The girls progress to the Regional finals in April as runners up. Great hockey girls and good luck in the Regionals!
A Family Affair (See photo gallery)
Chris, Ryan & Nathan Gladman all played together for the first time for the Academy 9-0 win which gained the team promotion. Nathan also got a hat-trick!!
Another Family Double (See photo gallery)
Old Loughts’ U12s Leo & Guy Garner helped Handsworth Primary School (as player & coach) win through to represent Waltham Forest at London Youth Games. Gold medals presented by former Old Loughtonian, current England & GB player Emily Defroand.

First Aiders for Free Lunch
If anyone fancies volunteering to be available as a first aider for part, or all, of the ladies over 55s inter-regional tournament on 19th & 20th May at the club, in return for a free lunch/drinks, and the chance to watch some great hockey, please contact Jane Blake on janelesley.blake@tiscali.co.uk. Games will run from 11:15 until 5pm on the Saturday and 9:30 until 3:30 on the Sunday. Help during any of those times would be much appreciated.
Summer Activities
My name is Phil and I play for the Old Timers Baseball Club in Enfield and whilst we’re always seeking experienced players we also welcome complete novices too.
Given the outdoor, stick and ball nature of both our sports we thought that field hockey teams might be a good place to look for potential new players?
The Old Timers play in the lowest division of The British Baseball Federation but we still aim for a healthy balance of fun and competition. If you’d like more info, please visit:-
http://www.oldtimersbaseballclub.co.uk and/or https://www.facebook.com/oldtimersbc
We play on Sunday afternoons from the end of April to the beginning of August and if you’d like to have fun whilst keeping fit you’d also be helping to secure the future of a club that’s been in existence since 1988.
Can anybody who might be interested, please contact me at:- phil.oldtimersbc@gmail.com
