U16 Boys 9 - 0 Oxford Hawks U16's (25/2/18)
A superlative team performance yesterday saw the Boys' U16's progress to the next stage of the Mercian Play-offs. Oxford were a well organised and well-drilled team, but on a bitterly cold afternoon were unfortunate to meet a team with an insatiable appetite to reach finals day. Joseph set out his wishes before the start with consummate command and proceeded to lead by example impressively accompanied by fifteen fellow team members aspiring to make a statement.
Too many good performances to single out, it is however a pleasure to applaud the unsung hero between the sticks. Barney as usual commanded his defensive unit with tremendous vocal presence and although he had to spend a considerable amount of time trying to keep warm, pulled off two truly outstanding saves that even drew comment from one of the umpires. He has been doing this all season and genuinely deserves a shout out!
Well done team, let's see what the next round brings!!
U18 Boys 0 -- 4 Teddington U18's (25/2/18)
A harsh result for a depleted yet totally committed team. Teddington were a highly skilled, well-drilled, physical unit of players yet found it difficult to break down the Loughs’ defence, and on the occasions that they did were faced by Xavier, a goalkeeper on a mission, who pulled off a string quartet of outstanding stops. The boys went in 0 - 0 at half time and had worked their socks off, especially as a nasty hand injury to Jake meant we lost yet another team regular. Genuine thanks must go to George and all the younger U16 players who kindly accepted the invite to play at very late notice.
Sadly, Teddington opened the scoring with a rather fortunate goal. To their credit although disappointed, no heads dropped but in chasing an equaliser, we were punished on the break by a very efficient opposition. Tired legs at the end meant the score-line increased but the team deserves unmitigated acclaim for sheer endeavour through-out. The good news is that we are still in with a shout as we have had the good fortune of remaining in the competition for the next round.
