REMINDER - AGM – Wednesday 4th July

The Club’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th July in the clubhouse starting at 7.30pm.  This is your opportunity to hear the reports and proposals of the Management Committee as well as have your say and elect captains and mangers for next year.  If you are not able to attend please send your apologies to the Honorary Secretary along with your completed proxy voting form.  Reports are also available on the club website.

Ladies - We need you!
As we look to next season, we have been working hard to get things set up to develop and grow our club. We have met recently to keep the ball rolling and make sure we can provide a strong standard of hockey right through to social hockey - offering hockey at all levels at our fantastic facilities here where we are so lucky to have our own pitches, on site clubhouse providing hot teas each week and a great coaching team.

Our first priority is to retain our current players - so if you have any concerns or questions about next season please contact one of the team captains, one of the management committee or the office and we will pass onto the right person.

We also need to recruit, particularly at the top end of the club to help us realise our ambition to be a national league ladies hockey club again in the near future. Please all give some thought to if there is anyone you know that might be interested / persuadable. Any thoughts - no matter how improbable, please let us know. Plus you get a discount on your fees if you introduce someone.

Finally, hopefully you are all aware that summer league is in full swing - if you want to play please contact the following:
- Rachel Paddon at rachelpaddon@icloud.com for Tuesday evening hockey (an hour game between 7pm and 10pm) at a high lower elevens standard.  Invite others along too - £5 match fee payable a game.

There is also social hockey at the club every Tuesday - all abilities welcome for a friendly knock around from 8pm every week. No charge!

Let’s get the club growing, together.

Masters Memories

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away I was 1st XI captain at OLHC - see photo 1979 / 1980.

To my right is one Mark NORTHCOTE. He was a notorious left winger and enthusiastic early exponent of a thing called the ‘aerial ball’. This was at a time when few of us couldn’t even spell the word aerial let alone execute the stroke on grass. On his own admission Mark was a 'top player’ and became known as ABK (aerial ball king).

Unlike many of us Mark continued playing hockey, mainly because out on the left wing he remained relatively uninjured. He and his wife Jill travelled the world ending up in Vancouver. He is, as I write, representing Canada in the World 60+ Championships being held in Barcelona. Last week Neil HUTCHINSON (70s and 80s goal keeper) and I went over to Barcelona to support Mark and the Canadian team and carry the OLHC international flag.
