U16 Girls training changed to Thursday evenings starting 6th September

Weekend Round-Up

The men’s 1st and 2nd XIs had a preseason fixture against Holcombe on Saturday.  The 1st team lost 7-2 to their premier league opposition with Mitch Jones scoring twice for the home side.

The 2s played some excellent hockey in patches and managed a 2 -2 draw

A very young 3rd XI played in the Essex Cup at Redbridge competing against senior first teams from other Essex clubs.  The boys did well to draw most of their games and were competitive in those that they lost.

Before the bank holiday the men’s 1st XI played in the Tonbridge 9s Tournament.  Against stiff opposition they finished 3rd beating Tonbridge Wells, Chichester and Oxted and losing to premier league opposition East Grinsted and Holcombe.  A special mention must be given to AJ Ashaye and Max Garner who played with spirit and skill in this tournament and also on their 11-a-side debut at Holcombe on Saturday

The ladies managed to get a team out to play London Wayfarers and despite a large number of absences it gave their new coach Adnan Zakir a chance to see those players available.  With players returning from holidays and back to training Adnan hopes to build on the positive start that has been made.  We are very pleased to welcome him to the Club and the coaching team and wish him and the ladies section every success for the forthcoming season.

Futures Cup

Well done to all the Old Loughtonians young players who competed in the Futures Cup with Freddie Britt and AJ Ashaye playing for Saxon Tigers who went on to win the event.  Congratulations go to Fergus Wootton who was named Player of the Tournament

U16s Friendly pre-season tournament

The U16s boys got off to a great start on Sunday at a pre-season friendly tournament at Sevenoaks.

It took a little while to get used to playing as a team but they found the back of the net before the end of the first half. The boys settled into their positions and finished 2-0 up against a strong Sevenoaks team.

After a short break the boys were back on against Guildford, the back to back matches and the heat taking it out of the team as energy levels dropped. Guildford snuck a messy goal past our keeper which then seemed to help the boys find their energy reserve and despite an impressive Guildford defence the final result was 3-1.  A great result against Premier League 1 opposition as OLHC U16s have just moved to Premier 2

Survey

Thank you to everyone who had completed the England Hockey survey.  We have had an impressive 96 responses and will be able to let members have feedback shortly.

That does however still only represent a fifth of the membership.  If you have not already done so could you please complete the survey.  It will give the volunteers who help run the club a much clearer picture of what members think.  Click here.
