Hockey Interrupted due to Coronavirus
Posted by Jane Blake on 16 March 2020
Dear Members,
Following my email on Friday there have been further developments in relation to Coronavirus. The Government have advised against gatherings and significant social contact and England Hockey have suspended EH hockey activities, including National League and U16 National Finals, and urged the hockey family to do likewise. The East League, the London League, the Essex League and the Mercian League have followed suit.
There is a very simple message that we should all do what we can to arrest the spread of the virus for the benefit of ourselves, our families and the wider community. The Club will accordingly close down activities with immediate effect. Training and matches are therefore cancelled until further notice.
Questions concerning promotion and final positions will be answered in due course and we will post on the website when we have further news.
Unfortunately this is an unprecedented situation. I am very mindful of the impact this serious virus will have and I hope you will keep fit and well to resume hockey activities as and when we can. We were hoping for enjoyable summer hockey but we shall have to wait and see if, and to what extent, that is possible.
Despite this rather gloomy news, we have had a very successful and enjoyable season, which has exceeded expectations. Our teams have played some great hockey and achieved several league titles and promotions, which will act as an excellent platform for next season. I will include a longer note on the season in our end of season review, but, for now, can I say that it has been thoroughly enjoyable for me and I look forward to seeing you at the Club in the near future.
All the best
