Men's 1st XI Tour to Belgium
Posted by Peter Kempe on 26 July 2016
The Old Loughtonians Mens 1st XI will begin pre-season training at the beginning of August at the Club’s all weather pitches at Luxborough Lane. 1st Team Manager Gerry Smith is pleased to report that most of last year’s players have remained at the Club (and indeed are long term members since Colts) and that the Club is recruiting strongly for the coming season. Loughts were top of the League at Christmas and narrowly missed out on promotion last year. Setbacks through injuries to key players at the business end of the season undermined our charge for immediate promotion back to the National League.
As part of the preparations for next season the Club will go on tour to Belguim from Friday the 19th August until Sunday the 21st August. The team will stay in Brussels and will play the following fixtures:
1. Royal Racing Club Brussels. 6 p.m. Friday the 19th;
2. Royal Wellington. 2 p.m. Saturday the 20th ; and
3. Waterloo Ducks. 11 a.m. Sunday the 21st.
In addition to this, the team will play in the PLUM Tournament on the weekend of the 10th and 11th September which should bring in a number of good quality teams and competition to the Club. There will be other pre-season matches.
Those who were involved with the team last year will understand what a tremendous group of players we have. Gerry and the the team are looking forward to a very enjoyable and successful season under the stewardship of Coach Nick Clark in conjunction with our cameraman Ozzie and physio Millie.
