Be More Purple
The opening day of the season saw the best results for the club for over a year. Well done to everybody who played.
30 goalscorers, 4 clean sheets, 2 hatricks, 3 teams top of the table and an aggregate goal difference of +27. Quite some achievement. Details below.
First the SMALL PRINT.
Sale ends Saturday!
Thank you to the vast majority of members who have already returned their membership forms, paid or submitted standing orders and taken advantage of the early payment discounts. For those who have not please note:
- Membership forms must be completed, signed and returned to the club BEFORE anyone can play. We have no choice on this. For anyone who cannot find the August reminder email, forms are here on the website (Membership page and news item) and behind the bar.
- The early payment discount offer expires at midnight on Friday 30th September. Any payment received after 6.00pm on Matchday Saturday 1st October (whatever the date on the form or a cheque) will not be eligible for a discount.
- After 1 October, any player who has not returned the membership form and paid in full or submitted a standing order will not be eligible for selection. The player will be shown as "Unavailable" on the online selection team sheets and will not be selected.
If anyone has any questions (or is simply confused by the wealth of discounts available) or in case of hardship or exceptional circumstances please contact the Membership Secretary on membership@oldloughtonians.co.uk
Purple Haze
All our Old Loughts teams played some great hockey this weekend.
The Men's 1st team led the way with an 8-0 win over local rivals Chelmsford. The Ladies 1st team played very well and scored twice against a very good Bedford team but eventually lost away 2-5. The Men's 2s drew 3-3 at home to Hampstead & Westminster and the Ladies 2s under new captain Faye Holmes had a very impressive 6-0 win against Letchworth. Top scorers Men's 3s notched 13 goals without reply against Tulse Hill & Dulwich. The Ladies 3s also played well but went down to Colchester 0-3. The Loppers defeated Southend 2-1 with Pat Haslam off the mark to try to become club top goalscorer for yet another season! The Ladies 4s had a good 4-2 win against Colne matched by the Ladies 5s with a 4-2 win against Brentwood. The Academy 2s beat Wapping 1-0 with keeper Nico de Diego Pineda joining Fred Whitfield, Sally Watkins and Nasr Islam in keeping a clean sheet.
Congratulations also to hat trick heroes Kiera Dawes and Danny Sandhu.
Full match reports for all teams can be found on the website in the "Meet the Teams" section.
