Tom Wilson Memorial Day
One year after Tom’s tragic death, led by the Mens 1st XI, the club held a Memorial Day on Sunday which received amazing support from Old Loughtonians' members and also from many visitors from across the wider Hockey Family.
Lisa and Pippa Wilson led everyone in remembering Tom by planting a willow tree at the pitch side accompanied by the London 2012 Games Makers choir.
The younger members of the club were thrilled to see some of their Olympic hockey idols at the club with Barry Middleton (Captain) and Harry Martin from the Mens GB side and from the Gold Medal winning Ladies team, Susie Townsend and Shona McCallin with their gold medals. The club are extremely grateful for their support.
A number of games were played with 4 men's teams participating: Old Loughts HC; Old Loughts Alumni, Havering HC and Nottingham Trent Uni HC. There was a Ladies match between Old Loughts HC and Havering HC and 4 mixed teams also played: Old Loughts, Havering, Lambert Smith Hampton and Nottingham Trent.
With all the fund raising run around this event they have managed to raise about £3,500 for the Tom Wilson Memorial Fund which is a great effort and many thanks to all who supported the day.
There are articles online which members may like to read (just follow the links) – the Daily Mail have done a feature about Tom and interviewed Lisa Wilson
and the Ilford Recorder gave the club brilliant coverage of the day
and to the matches played on the anniversary of Tom's death.
